About the Regatta

A Charleston tradition honoring those who serve.

The Military Salute Regatta is a Charleston event created to honor active-duty service members, veterans, and the families and community that stand behind them. Founded by the Charleston Ocean Racing Association, the regatta pairs military participants with local skippers for a day of racing on Charleston Harbor and brings everyone together afterward for celebration, fellowship, and support of two veteran-focused nonprofits.

Through the excitement of sailing, the regatta creates a meaningful way to thank those who have served while also raising funds and awareness for Veterans on Deck and Friends of Fisher House Charleston. It is competitive, welcoming, distinctly Charleston, and built around camaraderie on and off the water.

Why It Matters

A day on the water. A year of support for veteran families.

Proceeds support Veterans on Deck and Friends of Fisher House Charleston, connecting the excitement of race day to year-round work that serves veterans and their families.

The Venue

On the water at Charleston Harbor.

The race takes place on Charleston Harbor, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in front of Waterfront Park, with sweeping views of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and the Charleston peninsula. Friday’s meet & greet and Saturday evening’s awards celebration are held at Charleston Yacht Club.

Founded by the Charleston Ocean Racing Association, the regatta is a distinctly Charleston event — built around the harbor that has defined this city for centuries and the community that turns out each year to honor those who serve.

The Mission

Keeping veteran families together during medical treatment.

The Charleston Fisher House provides families with private rooms and shared common spaces at no cost while a loved one receives care at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Friends of Fisher House Charleston raises local support to help keep the House stocked, cared for, and ready for the next family who needs it. The Military Salute Regatta connects a day of community celebration directly to that mission.
