In Memoriam: MSgt Johnny Johnson

MSgt (Ret.) Johnny Johnson, a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and steadfast friend of Fisher House organizations across South Carolina, passed away in August 2025. His impact on the Charleston Fisher House — and on the veteran families it serves — is woven into the very fabric of the building.
Johnny was instrumental in raising the funds to build both the Charleston and Columbia Fisher Houses. But his commitment didn’t end at the ribbon-cutting. He continued to show up after the dedications — bringing meals, making donations, and ensuring that the families who most needed support felt it.
Johnny and his wife Maggie gave the Charleston Fisher House one of its most meaningful pieces: “The Caretaker,” a woven print family heirloom that has hung in the House since it opened. It speaks to exactly who Johnny was — someone who understood that caring for others is a calling, not a transaction.
In his memory, donations made in Johnny’s name will fund new service branch emblems for the Fisher House rocking chairs — a project he had expressed interest in before his passing. It’s a fitting tribute: the chairs where veteran families sit and breathe for a moment will carry a small piece of his legacy.
Friends of Fisher House Charleston is grateful for everything Johnny gave to this mission. We ask for prayers for Maggie and the Johnson family as they grieve a man who gave so generously to so many.
